Well I'm very surprised at how this one turned out! It's good! I can't believe it, but it was good! I read the book, so perhaps that is some of what made this work for me. All I know is that I was entertained from the beginning of the movie to the end.

Here is the IMDB synopsis: "Five sisters in 19th century England must deal with the idea of marrying wealthy businessmen, as well as protecting themselves from a growing population of savage zombies."

The Grade: B+ (Entertaining and just plain fun throughout, but CGI zombies instead of practical effects takes this one down a notch)

The Good:

You don't go into this movie with high expectations. You go into this movie for this new thing that Seth Grahame-Smith (author) started doing with famous literature. It's a goof, but it's also done seriously enough to still be a full story. These "mash-ups" are extremely clever even with the goofy twists they are given. I sat down in the theater and from the opening scene I was taken to this wonderful world of Victorian England and well....zombies! It was funny at times, and yet it was done in a serious manner. I found that my favorite character was that of "Mr. Darcy." The actor Sam Riley was really interesting to me with his very serious face and raspy voice. It really worked well for the character and I was riveted by him. The main actress Lily James was also very beautiful and strong. She encompassed the character well. The fighting scenes were definitely well done. The language and costumes were of course very authentic and beautiful. The highest compliment I can give to this movie is that of the entertainment value. I had a blast with this one from beginning to end. I feel like I can buy a copy of this one for repeat viewings.

The Bad:

There is but one "bad" for this movie and it is a fairly large one for me personally. CGI zombies! I HATE that they did not decide to go with practical effects. It's the only way a good zombie movie ever works. They looked okay at times, but not enough to save this one flaw in something that was otherwise terrific for what it should be. Otherwise, I have no complaints. I give you readers fair warning however...."this movie is not for everyone!" I have found that some were bored by the movie. Others wanted more zombie action. The plain and simple truth is that you are watching a Jane Austin story with a very goofy and clever mashup....but it is still a Jane Austin book! If you have a small attention span, then this is not for you.

The Ugly:

CGI, CGI, CGI!!!!!!!!! You ruined "I Am Legend" and too many more to count! I hate you CGI! Take a flying leap off a cliff you bastard! Rant over!

In Conclusion:

You should know what you are getting into with this one. It's a Jane Austin stuffy Victorian era story with zombies! In my personal opinion it is very cleverly executed and very entertaining. I look for enjoyment and that's what I got from this movie. I struggled to find a complaint apart from the CGI. I will buy it, and therefore I recommend it!
