Let me preface this by saying that I loved the first "The Conjuring." That was an excellent movie! Going into the sequal I was a bit scared they'd ruin something great by trying to create a franchise...I'M LOOKING AT YOU "SAW" AND "PARANORMAL ACTIVITY!!!!" Imagine my delight when for all intents and purposes "The Conjuring 2" is quite possibly "BETTER" yes you heard me...BETTER than the first movie! I highly recommend the movie to all you horror fans!

Here is the IMDB Synopsis: "Lorraine and Ed Warren travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by a malicious spirit."

The Grade: A+ (Amazing story, amazing acting, amazing tension, amazing direction, cinematography...it's just good guys!)

The Good:

Much like the first movie this sequal takes its time and tells a good story! We get to know the characters involved and we learn to care for them. One standout actor is a young girl that is the centerpiece of the haunting going on. This girl is going to grow up to win Oscars! As per usual Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are terrific as well. The pacing is great, as it lets you get involved with the movie. They begin the movie like the first movie with another case the Warrens are working on. I won't give it away, but it is a famous one! They give us lots of great exposition involving the Warrens and their issues they face as paranormal researchers. They are being called frauds etc. The score is great, it really sets the tone but does not take over the movie. The cinematography is terrific as I would expect from a James Wan film. The scares are super effective because they are earned and not cheapened by dumb jump scares or dumb characters jumping out and saying "Boo!" for no reason at all. The story is amazing! As I understand it they took a lot of liberties to the true story, but hey we all know they do that! The movie is actually quite deep, there are a lot of layers to what is going on.

The Bad:

Hahahahaahahahaahahaha! I can't think of anything I would change! Um, that it ended?

The Ugly:

I do have an interesting point for this section. I run a horror movie club on meetup.com. One of my members who is perhaps "too well read" complained about the first "The Conjuring." Stating that it is "Catholic infused misogyny." I for the life of me could not understand fully what he could be referring to! I mean from my point of view all of the female characters are quite strong. The male characters certainly do not dominate. Never the less he was adiment about his position and proceeded to site sources that all point out to this horrible misogyny! Why in the world should we look that deeply into these movies? I read the articles that were sited. Frankly I still think it's a bunch of crap! I also found articles that debunk these theories. I hate looking this deep at something that I enjoy! Why tear it apart like that? Here's my take:

The women in these movies are strong. They do not bow to men. They are dealing with something extremely scary and they come off as strong and protective of their children. I love women and I love it when they can fight evil just as well as any man. Not to mention that these movies are based on real people. Catholic is an issue for you? Well the characters in real life are catholic! Get over it!

In Conclusion:

Terrific movie! Go see it now! Everything about it was perfect for me. I was even quite tense or even dare I say...scared at times. I will buy this movie when it comes out!
