This is my first review in quite some time, but I really want to get back on the horse! What better way to get back on the ole party wagon than with a killer clown movie! This movie is billed as an "Eli Roth Film" but it is Directed by Jon Watts and also written by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford. I was quite nervous to watch this movie. You see I have a young son at home and the idea of a clown killing children was something pretty terrifying for me as a father. I am not someone that suffers from "coulrophobia" or "fear of clowns." However this clown just on the very cover of the movie looks pretty freaky! Well the movie was decent! I was able to face my fears and watch it beginning to end!

Here is the IMDB Synopsis: "A loving father finds a clown suit for his son's birthday party, only to realize that it is not a suit at all." Yep that pretty well sums it up!

The Grade: B (Solid movie with a solid story...if not a bit too simple. Good makeup effects and pretty tense at times. Suffers from not caring a great deal about the characters disease that plagues most movies today)

The Good:

This movie delivers what you'd expect from the simple premise and the movie trailer. The lead actor that becomes the titular "Clown" is quite good and like-able. You feel for him as it is not his fault this is happening to him. He seems like a great dad and only set out to save his son's birthday party when the hired clown can't make it. The story is extremely simple, but I really liked that they give you a mythology to explain everything. It also makes sense how our characters find answers. We don't get the old trick where some homeless guy seems to know everything! Solid movie overall!

The Bad:

I found myself trying to care for the characters. I just couldn't get there with most of the main characters! The wife was cute and not an entirely bad actress, but I just didn't feel for her. As a father I should have wanted to jump through my LCD to save the son, but I never really felt he was in any true danger! This movie just really suffers from not building characters that we can empathize with. That's really too bad because the movie has everything else you can ask for in order to be scared and tense about the situation.

The Ugly:

Well pretty simple here folks! Kids die! I remember a day when kids were untouchable in movies, but that day is long gone friends! It's not fun to watch a kid get it, but without spoiling anything they kind of try to make it more...for lack of a better term..."palatable."

In Conclusion:

"Clown" is a solid horror film. Probably way more scary for those that suffer from coulrophobia. I enjoyed it and feel that it definitely is worth a watch. If you don't like kids in danger, you might skip this one. Watch the trailer if you have any doubts because it sets you up pretty well for what to expect. The lead actor who becomes the "Clown" is quite good and carries the movie well! Otherwise I will probably forget this one in T-Minus 3 weeks. If you are having trouble finding a copy, I found it on Amazon Prime.
